VEIL SERIES
For the Veil series I was interested in the concept of the Veil of Maya - the Hindu and Buddhist theory that the world we perceive is illusory. This led me to contrast this spiritual idea with the idea of the material world and to consider the stuff of this world, particularly of nature. Following a trip to the west coast of Ireland I was fascinated by the colours in the landscape and the effect of the changing light and atmospheric conditions on how we see these colours.
I used pigments dispersed in binder and built up in many layers to try to create both a sense of the veil and of the colours inspired by the Irish landscape.
